Q: What is the difference between Lake Trax and Lake Trax Pro?
A: Lake Trax Pro is the total fishing solution. It includes both the maps on the GPS as well as maps on your computer. The GPS maps on the device help while you are on the water and the PC software helps when the fisherman is off the water either pre or post fishing.
Q: Is Lake Trax Pro compatible with Lowrance GPS units?
A: Since 2006, Lake Trax Pro is available for most Lowrance, Magellan, and Garmin units which support custom maps.
Q: I don’t see an option to buy a color map for a color GPS unit?
A: No special purchase is required. A gray scale and color map exists on each CD or SD card at no additional charge. I don't charge the consumer any additional money for color maps.
Q: To get the PC software and ability to print maps do I need to buy Lake Trax as well?
A: No, the Lake Trax PC version is automatically included at no additional cost with Lake Trax Pro to provide a total end to end fishing solution. Lake Trax provides the maps on GPS only and Lake Trax Pro provides the GPS maps and PC software.
Q: What depth of contours exist on your lake maps?
A: Lake Trax maps range from 1 foot to 5 foot contours. Instead of universally applying 1 foot, 3 foot or 5 foot contours to all lakes, Lake Trax maps vary depending on the lakes. For Minnesota, and deep ND lakes with steep drops, 5 foot contours are used, for moderate depth lakes in ND, 3 foot contours are used and for shallow ND lakes, 1 foot contours are used. 1 foot contours on steep structures cause contour lines to be too close together and hides the track/trail from the GPS.
Q: Can I get my money back, if the lake map doesn’t help me or is not compatible?
A: Yes, Lake Trax Pro comes with a money back guarantee. If your GPS is not compatible or if you don't feel the provided map(s) helps you find spots on a lake faster than if you tried to find the spot without my maps, I will return your payment. Simply send me a proof of purchase, and Kirsch’s Outdoor Products will refund your money.
Q: What is your update price as I have purchased an older version of Lake Trax Pro?
A: Kirsch’s Outdoor Product believes in customer loyalty. If the same product is updated such as Devils Lake for instance, we provide an update FREE of charge for this product. Simply send in your CD or SD card to Kirsch’s Outdoor Products, 7915 Aquarius Drive, Fargo, ND 58104 along with your shipping address, and we will send you an updated copy. Due to the incredibly low price of Lake Trax, updates are not FREE of charge.
Q: Can I use a Garmin Data Card with your maps?
A: Yes, as long as the customer owns a MapSource version as well from Garmin, all supported media formats including a Garmin Data Card can be used. However, the customer would need the ability to see the Garmin Data Card, SD card, or mini SD card. This would require a card reader just as any Garmin MapSource products.
Q: I have a Magellan, do I have to upgrade my GPS firmware?
A: It is highly recommended all customers use the most recent firmware provided by the GPS manufacturer. Many of the Magellan GPS units require the most recent firmware to run any custom maps. Upon loading the map or putting in the SD card, if the screen goes black, this is a sign the firmware needs to be updated. Magellan firmware updates can be found at Magellan.
Q: Do you create custom maps for lakes not listed?
A: Kirsch’s Outdoor does create custom lake maps. However, the price to do a single lake that is not part of a set or even to remove one lake from the already produced sets is very expensive. It is recommended to buy one of the current map sets available. If you have any questions about custom lake maps, send an email to Kirsch’s Outdoor Products.
Q: Will the maps show me all the structures on a lake?
A: There are no maps that show every detail of a lake. The maps provide a good start point to isolate key areas of a lake. The map of Devils Lake is one of the most accurate and detailed maps every produced and is based on depth level 1448.
Q: How accurate are the maps?
A: For ND maps, the maps are derived from on the water GPS soundings and are very accurate. GPS technology typically is accurate to plus or minus 9 feet with WAAS enabled GPS devices. This is the case no matter what map set you are using. For MN maps, the DNR maps are used. From a calibration standpoint, the map is accurate to within a few yards. However, the DNR maps are not always as accurate. Also, depths and contours change as lakes change, so depth ranges could be off from season to season or year to year. However, it will get you close enough to the structure elements to use your electronics to get you to the exact spot you are looking for. Try a map and see what you think. If you don't like it return it to me for a full refund.
Q: Why do I see some jagged contour lines on maps?
A: While viewing the map on the GPS, you may notice the lines appear jagged at high zoom levels. Kirsch’s Outdoor Products uses the actual depth soundings provided by the lake mapping entities. At times, this can cause some jaggedness to the lines. The strategic decision has been made to use the actual data as to preserve the best accuracy possible.
Q: Can I copy the maps in case my SD card becomes damaged?
A: THE MAPS CANNOT BE LEGALLY SENT TO ANY OTHER PERSON OR COPIED IN ANY MANNER. THIS VIOLATES THE COPYRIGHT AND YOU WILL BE HELD LIABLE FOR THIS VIOLATION. As long as the memory card has not been copied or damaged due to copying, we will replace or update your memory card if an issue arises with the card. Please send it to:

Q: Why do I get an OziExplorer unregistered message upon launching your maps and why does it put OziExplorer icons on my desktop?
A: The shareware version of OziExplorer is included with Lake Trax Pro. It is the software package that allows the customer to see the lake map on their PC. The message indicating that software is not registered is to be expected as the shareware version is included at no additional fee and allows the necessary access to the standard features of Lake Trax. The icons are added to the desktop as part of the installation of Lake Trax Pro installation. The icons can be removed as access to Lake Trax is through Start - Programs - Lake Trax.
